Sandy Island State Park beach day
Wednesday September 5 most of the schools in the area started classes. We didn't start til Thursday so we road-tripped to Sandy Island State Park to the spectacular Lake Ontario beach. We arrived at about 10:30am at the same time an older couple was arriving, and we were the first people on the beach. By the time we left at least 50 people were there. That first while when we had half the beach to ourselves was pretty amazing, but the whole day was awesome. The water is so clear, and the sand so white and powdery and clean. There are lots of rocks on the beach but they're all smooth, round rocks.
During the summer, there are lifeguards and rules and lots of blocked off areas where you can't swim. The lifeguard season ended on Labor Day, so we had the beach to ourselves. For a while Reed and I played "pirate ship" (entirely his invention and rules) where I laid down in the sand on my back and Reed used me as his pirate ship. He would throw his ball overboard and then jump out of the ship to rescue it. The water was the perfect temperature, about 76 degrees, with soft waves lapping over me. Theo and Beckett had a blast getting the hang of their snorkels (which are not allowed during lifeguard season) and swimming out REALLY FAR (it's shallow for a very long way, and there's a sandbar 50 yards out as well). Everyone except Reed had at least some sunburn, but it was a terrific day.
Theo lost two teeth today, too!

Historic event at Lake Cayuga
Morning snuggles and tickles and cuddles before the historic event.
Grandpa Stu giving instructions to Jeff on how to take the boat out.
There was a plethora of skinny dipping and naked dock-going this weekend, to the chagrin of the adult menfolk.

Creek day in Marcellus
Beckett and Reed were asleep before we left the driveway.
The conditions were perfect for crayfish hunting and splashing in the creek--cloudy, warm, with plentiful water wildlife.
