Second apple picking of the year
My good friend Stacey was visiting from San Francisco and met up with me and Reed and our good friend Tara at a huge commercial apple picking operation near our house. We don't usually go there because it's so crowded and big but we had fun and it was great to catch up with the old domestic violence legal team from Hiscock Legal Aid. When we started we had no kids yet but now we have eight between the three of us!

Last gasp lake weekend
We snuck in one last great weather weekend at the lake, complete with board game playing on the deck and boating and even swimming.

Jeff runs a race
A few weeks ago Jeff participated in a road race in our neighborhood. It was a beautiful day and he got a great time! He also had five dedicated cheerleaders (Kathy was visiting that day).

Reed-isms
Reed, at breakfast one morning, leaning in to me to give me a hug: “Mama, sometimes I cry.”
Me: “why do you cry, Reed?”
Reed: “sometimes I cry in the morning, because I’m not with you, and I want to give you a hug.”
Dinner conversation between Joan, Stu and Bryn about timeshare-free airfare seminar S&J attended recently. Bryn thinks it is a scam and is asking increasingly skeptical questions.
(After many other questions) Bryn: “you heard about this thing from something you got in the mail???”
Reed: “none of your business, nosy!!”
Reed is going through a pink phase, not unlike the one Theo went through at about the same age. I've indulged Reed probably more than I did Theo, so he has a brand new pink wardrobe, plus the pink leggings I got for Theo that Reed is wearing now. Reed has asked me to do laundry every night so that he can wear his pink pants every day but for now, he has not been very persistent and so far I have not indulged that wish. So he still has Superman days when he wears his Superman shirt and red shorts. But he has pink shirts, and a pink sweatshirt, and lots of new pink and purple socks.

Goodbye to Milo
Milo has been losing weight lately, drinking lots of water, and peeing and pooping all over. It turns out she has a heart murmur, arthritis, and diabetes. So Jeff is taking her tomorrow for her final vet visit. The kids are sad, Beckett especially. I think they'll take it hard for a while.
If you care to reminisce about Milo, feel free to check out these photos and videos. I especially recommend the first video.
