Theo and Beckett update

The boys are doing great as big brothers. The first day they met Reed, on Monday, the day after he was born, they weren't so sure. They initially peered in at him, but then mostly ignored him for the rest of the day. Since then, they have taken more of an interest, at least some of the time. Most days they come into bed with us when they wake up to cuddle, and now instead of two boys there are three in the middle between us. Theo and Beckett like to count Reed's fingers and toes, and remark about how he can't do much. When Reed is in his bouncer seat next to the table while we're eating or when I'm doing something with the older boys, and he starts to fuss, one of them will go over and rock his chair gently, or offer him a pacifier, or pull a blanket over him, and talk softly to him to comfort him. They've also been very patient if I have to pause a story or a game with them to help Reed nurse or reposition him. Theo has read to Reed a few times, showing him the pictures and narrating the story.

They are also doing great in their own right. The bathroom accidents have cut way down for Beckett in the last few weeks, and last night they decided they were ready to wear just underwear to bed--and both woke up dry! I'm sure we will have some accidents in the coming days, weeks and months but I'm so proud of them--and they are very proud of themselves!

Beckett has been counting a lot lately and has gotten to 100 once or twice. Both boys enjoy sounding words out and figuring out what letter words start with, and identifying letters in their books.

They sleep great at night, and I don't think they've woken us up at all in the last few weeks even though they get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. They are thrilled that the weather is finally nice so they can go outside more, ride bikes, play on the playgrounds we haven't seen in months, and not have to get totally bundled up every time we run to the car. They are totally into superheroes, spurred on by books they have found at the library, and are currently poring over books about Iron Man and the Hulk that they found at a new library we checked out Tuesday. I think they've also been enjoying all the company we've had, and that so many of our friends and family have given the boys presents when they have come to see the new baby. With that plus their birthdays coming up next week, they will have lots of new playthings to enjoy this month! They also love all the company, and one night when we did not have guests coming to drop food off or eat with us, Theo asked who was coming for dinner that night. He was so disappointed when we said it was just us. They are also thrilled that I pick them up from school instead of from afterschool, so we have a whole afternoon together once they get home on the days they go to school.

This is what happens when you have a twin brother. Very little bathroom privacy.

Last Friday, May 1, Auntie Alexis joined us for a trip to the zoo. The boys showed a lot more interest in the animals than usual, especially this very playful penguin.

Riding the tiger and elephant are also always favorite activities--much more exciting than the actual elephants and tigers.

Theo reading Iron Man to Reed.

Mindy joined us for a trip to one of our favorite playgrounds on Friday, May 8. It was such a treat to have time with her, for all of us.

The boys had a great time picking dandelions and putting them in my hair and sunglasses.
